Air Jordan 6

Moving ahead from 1991 was MJ’s sixth signature shoe that gained the name Air Jordan 6. As Michael Jordan collected tons of different individual and group awards, his shoe brand escalated to the next level.

From the Tinker Hatfield design, the AJ6 achieved reinforcement around the toe with a Porsche-inspired rear pull tab for easy-to-carry functionality. Hatfield also added two holes on the top of the tongue for the same purpose as the loop on the back. Therefore, both attributes were personally requested by MJ for his own convenience.

For the second time around, clear rubber sole was featured on the Air Jordan lineup. The AJ6 was the lucky one to inherit one of AJ5’s highlights but apparently, records of complains arose since the previous clear sole was vulnerable to dust collection thus causing it slippery and was viewed by many to be prone to accident. From that point, Air Jordan enhanced this into a more potential solid rubber.

Another thing that seemed to be a problem was the heel tab positioning that targets the Achilles tendon and causes rupture. Brand Jordan did not take this for granted so a sort of molded structure was integrated. The last touch that Hatfield incorporated was the number “23” on the design of the shoe.

Seven years, six shoes, one ring. AJ6 was the first Jordan with an inner bootie. Its striking design served as a moment to MJ’s efforts and a signpost for the greatness that he captured in both league and Finals MVP.

After the original colorway, the Promised Land-themed Air Jordan 6 was released in Retro and Retro+ including sample versions.
