Air Jordan 5

Michael Jordan’s journey continued to soar higher as the Air Jordan V accompanied his breath-taking actions on the court. While Tinker Hatfield launched another new image for the signature basketball shoe, excellent features multiplied as he drew inspiration from the World War II Mustang fighter plane, noting MJ’s aerial dogfight-like game.

The Air Jordan 5, released in February of 1990, portrayed a reflective tongue, plastic lace lock, and clear sole with shark teeth design on the midsole combined in timeless shoe worn by MJ as he won his fourth scoring title and had a career-high 69-point outburst. During this time, Phil Jackson took over as head coach for the Bulls in the 89-90 season that boosted the team and everything went flying.

Air Jordan designs got more innovative and this fifth model proved to be an output of a real genius designer. The original colorway which utilized Black on most of the upper features a Grey padded reflective tongue with Red Jumpman embroidery. The side has a White perforated plastic panel while the heel displays a White Jumpman logo. A highlight of the Black midsole is a Grey-speckled shark teeth-like design and under it is a translucent outer sole.

Due to its uniqueness, the AJ5 received greater demand in the market, thus the first Retro appeared on 2000 followed by the Retro + and other sample colorways that mainly used Metallic Silver plus corresponding color combination. And for MJ, the Air Jordan 5 is another inspiring shoe that contributed much in his nonstop victory.
