Despite the fact that we regularly only cover a handful of different brands here on Sole Redemption, there are a huge number of brands out there that produce sneakers on a regular basis. Many of these sneakers just stay far below the radar to us because they are not big names like the Nike and adidas sneakers that we spend the majority of our time covering. Still though, there are times when these sneakers deserve their share of coverage as well, and being equal opportunity sneakerheads, we are happy to give them those opportunities. Today we are going to be looking at the latest example of that with the Fila Cage Collection.

Fifteen years ago, we have seen the first signature Fila worn by Grant Hill which was known as “The Hill”, while he played for the Detroil Pistons. Later that time, when Hill’s name gradually faded from the top-ranking players in the NBA, Fila also lost the popularity. Most Fila basketball shoes remained in the vault for a long time.

After the silence, Fila heard a wake up call and now it is back in the scene. The Italian brand now introduces the new Fila F-13 SLE, a mid-top sneaker made from leather. The white upper features accents of red and black on specific places and the patented FILA label is seen everywhere. A unique ribbed collar possesses heavy perforations with embroidered Fila branding on the side and rear. The red tongue is supported by perforated adjustable Velcro ankle strap with a stitched “F” branding. A smooth interior gives ultimate comfort and soft feel.

If you haven’t been paying close attention to the brands besides Nike and Jordan lately then you may not have even noticed that Fila has been making somewhat of a comeback and a very welcomed one at that. Fila used to be a pretty dominant force in the sneaker industry but unfortunately has been slipping over the years. Hopefully this new sneaker and other ones that we have spotted recently are signs of good things to come from them.

This new Fila T-1 Mid looks to take things back to their vintage days when things were going really well for the brand. Along with the sneakers they will also be releasing some vintage 80’s style jackets and sweatsuits to really give you that old school feeling. If you miss the nostalgia and the good old days, then you might want to run out and pick some of these up yourself.

You may not realize it yet but Fila is making moves to make their way back into the sneaker world as a contender again. It has been a while since anyone really recognized Fila as one of the big dogs and they will be fighting an uphill fight, but we think they just might be able to do it. These new Fila Bull Strap Chukkas are one of their first outings to break back into the market, and they will be dropping two colorways to start off with, one in black and one in brown. They will both feature a combination of leather, suede and nubuck on the upper with a basket weave embossed filabuck toe box and heel. These are a nice unique shoe and you have to hand it to Fila for not trying to copy another company’s success like so many do when trying to break back into the market.

Fila will be teaming up with the NYC based sneaker shop called Classic Kicks. They will be, in part, creating three brand new pairs of the Fila Wimbledon. Each shoe is slightly different, but each one features white, purple and green and different mixes of suede and leather.

Creating the “Mack Squad”, comes Fila and Mackdaddy with Samurai Magazine making a Fila sneaker in a neon Green upper with a bolt of Purple, plus a variation of the BOYZ colored t-shirt. Reed Space was authorized by Fila to work magic on the 96 Grant Hill super famous rubber shoes. Amazingly, they did a pretty good job at it! They came out with Original white/navy version, NY Knicks orange/blue colorway and a CMYK colorway. Would you believe that the Original is only limited to 36 pairs worldwide? The side panel contains a “Reed 96″ print and the Reed Space chair logo can be found on the heel. The price is yet to be announced but will be available this Nov 21st.
