Featured Shoes: Nike Presto Pusan American School PE Sample Sneakers

Leave it to Nike to create a shoe for just about every occasion, place or person possible. We certainly aren’t complaining as it is always a treat to have new Nike sneakers around but sometimes you do have to wonder what they were thinking when they decide to create shoes for certain people and places. A good example of this would be this new pair of Nike Prestos in this Pusan American School PE Sample. What makes this shoe so unusual you might ask? Well the Pusan American School doesn’t even exist anymore. It was originally a high school located in Pusan, South Korea for American students.

The upper of these shoes will be made up of a yellow and navy blue colorway, which are the former school’s colors and they are displayed in feral stripes which is a tribute to the school’s mascot, which would be the panther.

Wrong, Pusan American School was a K-12, U S Dept of Defense School. What makes these shoes so unique was that they were designed by 5th graders. Armed Forces TV showed this infomercial for three weeks around the world. This was less than a year before 9/11 and there wasnt a lot of news on AFN. Those kids are all in College now. I should know, those are MY SHOES and I was there teacher!
The Kids made business plans, group development secrets and came up with 4 designs. Then the entire school voted on which one they liked.
Semper Fi to all my former NIKE designers at the Nike Research and Development Center in Kimhae, South Korea. I still have two sets of those shoes….great days, great kids!
