Inquiring sneakerheads around the world want to know: “Where are the Air Yeezys?”
Throughout 2008, nikeairyeezys.com has kept you up on the ‘Where’s Waldo’- like sightings of the Nike Air Yeezy, as they popped up here and there on the feet of Kanye West and all of his friends. At last count, we have spotted Kanye in four different colorways; however we have seen that a total of five variations are currently in existence. The fifth colorway was an exclusive, one of a kind pair made for the unofficial Godfather of all sneakerheads and Nike’s VP of Innovation, Tinker Hatfield. We’re not sure how close Kanye is with Tinker, but we would like to think that if anyone could get their hands on a pair of Yeezys – it would be him.
Nike and Kanye have successfully collaborated on a sly joint conspiracy to bait us into a heightened state of lust for this phantom sneaker. They have sparingly fed us just enough new colorway sightings to keep the internet buzzing and the rumors flying… “Are they real? When will they be released?” In December 2008, Nike pulled a rare move and cross-promoted the Air Yeezys with a mainstream release sneaker – the Nike Zoom Kobe IV.
For the untrained eye of your average consumer, this was a standard Nike commercial with NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, comedian Mike Epps, and popular DJ/club owner, DJ AM. However to sneaker aficionados worldwide, the Nike Zoom Kobe IV commercial had a deeper meaning. DJ AM is a legendary sneakerhead and Nike knew that putting him in this commercial wearing a pair of Air Yeezys would send all of the sneakerhead blogs into virtual overdrive. Prior to the commercial airing, it had been repeatedly speculated that the Air Yeezys would never be released and would just be used by Nike as another marketing hype device. However the fact that DJ AM was wearing the kicks in a commercial – (while promoting another notably buzzworthy shoe) AND even namedropped them once, added some validity (and strengthened hope) to the Air Yeezy’s actually hitting stores.
Fastforward to spring 2009: Nike has not only officially confirmed that the Nike Air Yeezys will be a reality, but will be dropping in stores on April 4.
Nike Air Yeezys are designed by Kanye West
Complex.com is reporting that Nike will be releasing only three colorways of the Air Yeezys. Each colorway will have its own release month. Only 1,000 pairs of each colorway will be released.
Outside of the commercial with DJ AM, there hasn’t been a ton of new Air Yeezy related activity so far this year. This may be partly due to the fact that Kanye has taken his sneaker show on the road to Paris and has teamed up with luxury brand, Louis Vuitton on another Kanye-designed sneaker. I guess it pays to be Kanye these days! We definitely shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that Kanye is a hip hop artist and not an athlete. It’s hard enough for pro ball players to get signature sneaker deals, but Kanye managed to get deals with two different top tier companies. What will Mr. West do next?

A all I know is that the blk/pink yeezy’s will be coming out in st.louis on may 2 at rsole but the house of hoops will have them in chicago……. uptop
